The Biology Graduate Student Association (BGSA) is an organization that represents the needs and concerns of biology graduate students, while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of undergraduate guidance and mentorship.
BGSA representatives plan social events and seminars, which provide valuable experiences for undergraduates and graduate students alike. Our mission is to foster unity and inspire progress throughout our entire student community.

Standing Events
- Fall 2023/Spring 2024: Graduate students are encouraged to attend department seminars on Tuesdays at 3:00pm and department meetings on Wednesdays at 3:00pm. Keep an eye out for invitations via the department and graduate student listservs.
- Fall 2023: Zoojoe is back! Meet in the Bartram/Carr courtyard on Wednesday mornings from 9:30a to 10:30a for free coffee and company. Bring your own mug.
- Summer 2023: Department T-shirts, tote bags, magnets, ornaments, and stickers are available! See this page or the email sent by Kate to the department listserv for more information.

- February 2, 2024: The department hosted its 2024 Recruitment Weekend. You can view the winners of this year’s department grants and awards here.
- August 24, 2022: Lauren Whitehurst has created an iNaturalist project to track the biodiversity found within Bartram-Carr Woods.
- July 19, 2022, 5:00pm ET: A virtual workshop for incoming international graduate students was hosted by Claudia Garnica, Zuania Colon, Yuanming Lu, and Mariela Pajuelo. You can find more information on the Resources for International Students page.
- April 15th, 2022: The Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program (URAP) Symposium was held from 2 to 5pm EST in Bartram-Carr Courtyard. You can view the flyer here.
- April 13th, 2022: Biology IDEA Committee hosted Dr. Kimberly Burdine and Dr. Carlton Green to facilitate a workshop on antiracism. More information here.
- March 25th, 2022: Meeting minutes from the Spring 2022 meeting and the BGSA Code of Conduct have been added to the website.
